Often referred to as a cap, a biological crown is a protective covering for a tooth. A crown is used in multiple situations. Typically, crowns will help save badly damaged or fractured teeth. Our crowns do not require root canals and are fabricated in an isolated environment with biological materials. These materials are more conservative, stronger and have the highest level of biocompatibility. When coming in for a crown appointment, please know you will leave the office with a temporary in your mouth and will be scheduled to return to the office once the final crown is back from a specific biological lab. It typically takes two weeks for a crown to finish the lab process. Holidays can cause delays in this schedule.

Please refrain from eating anything chewy, sticky or crunchy in the area of the temporary crown. When flossing in that area, also please pull floss out and not up. You do not need to take these same precautions with your final crown.

If you dislodge your temporary crown and it does not break, you can place it back in your mouth with a small amount of tacky natural toothpaste. You can also call the office, and we will do our best to get you in quickly to get the temporary recemented.

If your temporary breaks, please call the office to get an appointment to get a new temporary made. In order to make a new temporary, the office will need you to bring the mold that was taken at your original crown appointment. We suggest keeping the mold in your glove box. No need to worry about heat or cold, and this way you have it with you in case of a break.

Our office uses only bio ceramic and zirconia crowns. If you have sensitivity issues, we suggest you take a biocompatibility test so we can customize the materials used in your restorations to be specific to you. We do use the healthiest materials currently available, however that does not guarantee that sensitivity will not occur.
